I will introduce the physics of gravitational waves: from their theoretical representation, to the actual measurements of the signals associated to them in our detectors. Then, I will explain why there exist alternative theories to general relativity, give a few concrete examples, and discuss some of their potential impacts on the physics of gravitational waves. I will then review the various constraints we already have from the multiple detections that occurred during the last 3 years, as well as some potential additional test we could look forward to.
