Some of the most important issues affecting models and spectra of cool stellar objects will be discussed. Special emphasis will be given to the role of molecular and dust opacities and to the problems connected to their uncertainties. We present also recent results, where observed photometric and spectroscopic properties of dwarfs and giants could be reproduced by state-of-the-art models.
