Why Modify Gravity?

The standard model of cosmology has shown remarkable success in explaining cosmological observations in recent decades. This model consists of Einstein's theory of general relativity, the standard model of particle physics along with the propositions of dark energy and dark matter, as well as an early universe period of inflation. However, recent observations as well as decades-long questions into the inner workings of this model have motivated renewed investigations into new cosmological models that involve new theories of gravity.  In this talk, the motivation for studying these new models and their observational consequences are explored. The talk will also explore recent advances in Teleparallel Gravity (TG). TG offers the possibility to alleviate recent tensions between the standard model of cosmology and observational data by positing small deviations from General Relativity through modified gravity.
