PhD studies

The Astronomical Observatory PhD program is affiliated to the “Ecole Doctorale de Physique et Chimie-Physique” (Graduate School of Physics and Physical Chemistry link : ED182). PhD projects funded by the University of Strasbourg are published on the graduate school website every year, usually in april. PhD projects funded by other means can also be advertised all year long on the Observatory news page and on international job registers.

The 5 priority topics for PhDs starting in 2026 are :
– “Mining the sky for orphan T Tau stars” (Boily & Guillout).
– “On the diversity of dark matter haloes” (Freundlich).
– “Effets de la matière dense dans l’évolution des proto-étoiles à neutrons” (Oertel + Novak).
– “Structure and dynamics of the Galactic disc with WEAVE and Gaia: hunting for dark matter sub-halos” (Siebert + Monari).
– “From gas to stars – models of atomic and molecular line emission in resolved observations of local spiral galaxies” (Vollmer).

Master level research internships

Master research internships usually take place during the spring and summer. Projects are advertised on the national website hosted by SF2A, usually starting in October or November. Other demands will be studied on a case by case basis.
