The original (weak) version of the anthropic principle was about the probability of our situation relative to other alien possibilities. But to understand our Darwinian evolution, it is instructive to consider the situation of our civilization with respect to other terrestrial possibilities, and in particular compare homo sapiens to other hominidae predecessors.
