Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in observational X-ray astronomy at Strasbourg Astronomical Observatory.
The Observatory is one of the member institutions of the XMM-Newton Survey Science Centre (SSC). Within the consortium the group in Strasbourg is responsible for the component of the automatic reduction pipeline that extracts archival information for all XMM-Newton fields and for providing software tools and specific databases aimed at easing the identification of EPIC sources. The group is also involved in future projects such as LOFT and Athena+. The successful applicant is expected to participate in SSC activities and to collaborate with members of the institution.
Research interests of the High Energy team at Strasbourg include the physics of ultraluminous X-ray sources and microquasars and multi-wavelength observations (X-ray, optical, IR, and radio) of their counterparts and interstellar environments. We particularly encourage applicants with interest in ULX, but we do not a priori exclude applicants working in other fields of Galactic and extragalactic high-energy astrophysics.
The position is funded by the Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales for one year and will normally be extended for a second year. Earlier starting date is 1st of September 2013.
