In the first part of the talk I will summarize the recent results obtained by the latest ultradeep surveys, like HUDF, CANDELS, HUGS, related to the search and study of very high redshift galaxies and their properties. I will present the various surveys and then focus on a few recent results: the evolution of the Luminosity Function and of the corresponding Mass Function at high redshift, as well as the density of passive galaxies at high redshift. In the second part of my talk I will describe the technical challenges that we have to overcome to analyze the data from the deepest surveys. These images typically result from a suite of different observations with major facilities, and span decades in wavelength and in spatial resolution. I will present the aims and first result of an European project, named ASTRODEEP, that aims at addressing the major challenges involved in the analysis of these data and at analyzing in an accurate and self-consistent way the data from CANDELS and future public surveys.
