A small practical tutorial for cosmological N-body simulations
Abstract
Clément Stahl will give a small tutorial on generating cosmological initial conditions and running a simple N-body simulation of structure formation. This tutorial will first feature a theoretical overview of the field of cosmological simulations, oriented towards the different (open-source) codes on the market to run such a simulation. This will be immediately followed by a hands-on session, where all participants will be invited to run their own simulation following a notebook that Clément has prepared. You are therefore encouraged to bring your own machine to the Coupole meeting room. Everything will be on the cloud, so all you need to pre-install is a web browser. At the end of the tutorial, in principle, every participant will have their own little cosmological simulation with their preferred parameters, along with some nice visualisations, as well as measures of the matter power spectrum and halo mass function.
