Cooling of neutron stars: effects of magnetism, axions and phase transitions

Cooling of neutron stars is a sensitive probe of the composition of their interior. I will discuss recent developments towards understanding of the modifications of the "standard" scenario of the cooling in the cases (a) strong magnetism of matter, (b) existence of meV axions, (c) phase transitions in the interior of the star. In particular I will discuss the weak reaction rates in the interiors of neutrons star that lead to neutrino and axion emission, transport properties of crustal plasma in strong magnetic fields and the results of actual simulations of cooling of neutron stars with these new ingredients.
